A lifetime ago, a gaggle of girl scouts scampered along the wooded banks of Bradley Creek. They were on the hunt for the large waxy leaves that lay scattered in piles beneath the giant Magnolia trees that adorned the property. They would thread the leaves together with fishing line and string them around their waist. It was not so much a fashion statement, as it was a practical accessory. They called their handiwork a ''Sit-Upon'', and this addition to their wardrobe served to keep their scout uniforms from getting damp and muddy when sitting on the ground or a log. The girls would have been camping on land owned by Thomas Wright. They knew the land as Camp Wright, and in that idyllic setting they learned everything from first aid taught by U.S. Air Force medics, to how to tie fishing knots from officers in the Coast Guard. Every day began with a flag ceremony, and ended with a troop of very tired and happy girls. The giant Magnolias are mostly gone, victims of the whims of mother nature. The girls moved on too, taking their wonderful memories with them. But the land is still there, as it has been for generations, sitting directly on one of the most coveted bodies of water in Wilmington. This parcel of close to two acres can be subdivided into several lots, or developed into one large coastal oasis. Either way, this is a chance to own a piece of our region's history.
